ABOUT KKSC THEATRE
The Kwekwe Sports Club Theatre Section was formed in October 2018. Its debut performance was Cinderfella, a pantomime written by founding member Ricky Leighton and directed by another founding member Sarah Theisen. The pantomime was produced by the club manager, Neesha Leighton.
The section is unusual for its affiliation with a sports club. The founding members were all members of the sports club and felt that the community needed some form of entertainment. The tumultuous recent history of Zimbabwe has meant that organised sport has declined and so any section that actively provides entertainment to the community can only be a good thing.
The initial stages (pun intended) were difficult as the club has a large hall but not the facilities to stage plays. Our stage was built especially for Cinderfella and generous donations by members of the sports club covered the high cost of it. Over the course of the next year the section has installed curtains, improved the lighting and put in proper changing rooms.
The unbelievable success of Cinderfella, The Novelist, and the third show, A Kwekwe Christmas Carol has given KKSC Theatre the impetus to stage ever larger and adventurous shows and build on this success with the hope that it becomes one of the premier theatres in Zimbabwe.
In 2023, the theatre was revived after a flu-like virus swept the world and left the theatre in a state. Following extensive renovations (as extensive as could be for a hall in a sports club) and with renewed vigor, the theatre is now in the best place it has ever been. We have started branching out into hosting a comedy film festival called "An Evening of Comedy" and continue to put on the best entertainment we can.
